BUTTS COUNTY COURTHOUSE

JACKSON, GA

Butts County Courthouse in Jackson, Georgia is a two-story brick and stone building located in the center of the city. It was built in 1892 and is the oldest existing courthouse in Butts County. The courthouse is a Romanesque Revival style building and was designed by architect G.L. Norman of Macon, Georgia. The front façade of the building features a central entrance with a portico supported by four large columns. The interior features a central hallway leading to four courtrooms, each with a distinctive coffered ceiling and ornamental ironwork. The second floor houses the county offices and a large clock tower.

The exterior of the building is composed of brick and stone and features several decorative elements such as gabled roof lines, arched windows and a balustrade along the roofline. The roof is composed of metal shingles and is topped by an octagonal cupola with a clock housed in the top. The grounds around the courthouse are landscaped with trees and flower beds.

The Butts County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a popular attraction for visitors to the area and is a reminder of the county's long history and heritage. It is open to the public and is a popular spot for photography.
