The Fort Atthaway Preservation Society Inc. is a nonprofit organization located in Rome, Georgia. Established in 2018, the organization is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the area by preserving and restoring the historic Fort Atthaway, located near the present day Coosa River. The fort was originally built in 1814 by the Cherokee Nation as a trading post and refuge.
Today, the Fort Atthaway Preservation Society Inc. has taken on the mission of restoring the fort to its original condition and maintaining it as a public facility for educational and recreational purposes. The Society also works to promote cultural awareness, promote unity among all communities, and to provide educational and recreational opportunities for the public.
The Society hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including educational programs, concerts, and community celebrations. In addition, the Society works with local schools and organizations to develop educational programs and activities for children and adults.
The Society also works to protect and preserve the Fort Atthaway historic site and its surrounding environment. The Society works with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure that the site is protected from development and is managed in a manner that preserves the history and culture of the area.
The Fort Atthaway Preservation Society Inc. is committed to preserving and honoring the history and culture of the area, and to providing educational and recreational opportunities for the public. Through their efforts, the Society hopes to ensure that the legacy of Fort Atthaway is never forgotten.
