Audubon House is a beautiful historic mansion located in the heart of Miami's Coconut Grove neighborhood. Built in 1867, the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered one of the city's most iconic landmarks. The house was constructed by William Wagner, a wealthy merchant, who named the house after his favorite artist, John James Audubon. The house was later purchased by the Peacock family, who lived in the house until 1940.
Today, the house is owned and operated by the Miami-Dade County Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs and is open to the public for tours and special events. The house consists of two stories, with a large front porch, a grand parlor, and a separate kitchen. Inside, visitors will find an eclectic mix of antiques and period pieces, as well as original family portraits and memorabilia.
Outside, the landscaped grounds feature a variety of plants, trees, and shrubs, including a bird-of-paradise garden, a tropical fruit garden, and a butterfly garden. The gardens provide a peaceful setting for visitors to explore and enjoy the beauty of nature.
