The Myakka City Historical Society Inc. (MCHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Myakka City, Florida. Founded in 1985, MCHS works to preserve the memories and artifacts of the area’s past and to connect citizens to the unique heritage of the city. The Society is composed of an all-volunteer board of directors who meet monthly and host several events each year.
MCHS preserves the memories of Myakka City’s past citizens and its historical sites, including the Myakka City Cemetery, the Myakka City Post Office, and the Myakka City Jail. The Society also preserves documents, photographs, and other artifacts from the city’s past. The Society maintains a library of Myakka City-related books and other materials, and is open to the public for research, tours, and other activities.
The Society also hosts public events throughout the year, such as lectures, workshops, and other educational programs. In addition, the Society hosts an annual Homecoming and Festival each October, which features a parade, a craft show, live music, and other activities.
The Myakka City Historical Society Inc. is committed to preserving the history of Myakka City and to connecting its citizens to the city’s unique heritage. The Society’s efforts help to ensure that the city’s past is not forgotten, and that its citizens can continue to appreciate the history and culture of Myakka City.
