The Florala Historical Society Inc., located in Laurel Hill, Florida, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the town of Florala and its surrounding area. Established in 1984, the Society is a small but passionate group of dedicated volunteers with a mission to collect, preserve and share the history of this unique and vibrant community.

The Society is housed in a historic building that was once the home of the late Senator J.W. Huggins, and is located in the town’s historic district. The building has been beautifully renovated and now serves as the Society’s headquarters. Inside, visitors can find a variety of books, documents, photographs, artifacts and other items related to the history of Florala.

The Society also hosts a variety of educational and community events throughout the year, including lectures, book signings, museum tours and more. These events are designed to further promote the history and culture of Florala and its surrounding area.

The Florala Historical Society Inc. is open to the public and welcomes visitors. Membership is also available and helps to support the Society’s mission. With generous donations and support from the community, the Society is able to continue its work of preserving the history and culture of the area and educating the public about its rich and unique history.

What flower is this? Skyblue lupine (Lupinus diffusus) In the panhandle area of Florida, this flower is found primarily in the western end in dry sandy areas. It is particularly important since it is the larval host plant to the imperiled Frosted Elfin butterfly.
