Gator Chase (2) As I was visiting Six Mile Cypress Slough on Saturday I saw a good sized gator chased across the lake by a smaller gator. They came straight at the boardwalk I was on so I got down for a low angle. If you look close you can see a little hitchhiker right above the gator's eye.

The Museum of the Islands Society in St James City, Florida is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the history, culture, and art of the Pine Island region. Established in 1997, the museum collects, preserves, and displays artifacts, photographs, and other items related to the area’s history, including the Calusa Indians, the early settlers, and the pineapple industry.

The museum is located in the historic Pine Island Presbyterian Church and features permanent exhibits on the island’s history and culture, as well as rotating exhibits of local art, artifacts, and photographs. The museum also hosts a variety of educational programs and special events throughout the year, including lectures, workshops, and field trips.

The Museum of the Islands Society also offers a selection of books and other publications about Pine Island history, as well as a gift shop featuring locally-made crafts and items related to Pine Island life.

The museum is open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free. Donations are welcome to help support the museum’s operations and mission.
