The Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society is an educational, non-profit organization located in Key West, Florida. Founded in 1994, the mission of the Society is to preserve and promote the maritime heritage of the world, with a focus on the discovery, documentation, and interpretation of shipwrecks and the artifacts recovered from them.

The Society is named after Mel Fisher, a legendary treasure hunter who discovered the 1622 Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha and its cargo of gold, silver and jewels off the coast of Key West. The Society is dedicated to preserving Mel's legacy and passing on his legacy to future generations.

The Society offers a variety of educational programs and activities throughout the year, including lectures, field trips, and workshops. The Society also operates a museum, Mel Fisher's Treasures, which showcases artifacts from some of the world's most famous shipwrecks, including the Atocha, the Henrietta Marie, and the Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas.

In addition to its educational and museum activities, the Society also serves as an advocate for the preservation of historic shipwrecks and artifacts. The Society supports various initiatives aimed at protecting shipwrecks and artifacts from looters and other destructive forces, and works to ensure that these maritime resources are properly managed and protected for future generations.
