Okeechobee Battlefield Friends Inc. (OBF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, interpretation and promotion of the historic Battle of Okeechobee, which occurred on Christmas Day in 1837. OBF was founded in 2009 and is located in Okeechobee, Florida. The group's mission is to bring together people from diverse backgrounds to secure, protect and promote the history, culture and environment of the Okeechobee Battlefield site.
OBF strives to preserve the site through monthly clean-ups and invasive species removal, as well as educational programs and events. OBF also provides educational materials to schools, museums and other organizations to help spread awareness about the battle's historical significance.
In addition to preserving the site, OBF also promotes it as a tourist destination. The group holds monthly events and activities at the site, including guided tours of the battlefield, lectures, re-enactments, and various festivals. OBF also works with the Okeechobee County Chamber of Commerce to promote the area as a tourist destination.
OBF is an active member of the community and has been recognized for its work in promoting and preserving the Okeechobee Battlefield site. The group has received several awards, including the Florida Heritage Award and the Florida Historical Society's Preservation Award. OBF is also an active participant in statewide efforts to preserve and promote Florida's history.
