The Columbia County Historical Society Inc. was founded in 1957 with the mission of preserving and promoting the history of Columbia County, Florida. The Society is located in Lake City, Florida, and is dedicated to the preservation of historical documents, photographs, artifacts, and other local history items.
The Columbia County Historical Society Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is managed by an all-volunteer board of directors. The society works closely with local schools, universities, and other organizations to promote an understanding of Columbia County’s past.
The Society’s headquarters is located in the historic downtown area of Lake City, Florida. The Society also has a museum located at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, Florida. The museum features rotating exhibits about the history of Columbia County and its communities. The Society also hosts genealogical research days and special events throughout the year.
The Society’s website offers a wealth of information about the County’s history, including a searchable database of obituaries and a collection of historical photographs. The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Heritage, which features stories, photographs, and articles about Columbia County history.
The Society works to ensure that Columbia County’s history is not forgotten and is committed to educating the public about the county’s past and its importance to our present and future.
