The Erie Lackawanna Historical Society Inc. (ELHS) is a non-profit organization in Sarasota, Florida, dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and its many subsidiary lines. The Society was founded in 1997 and is a 501(c)3 organization.
The ELHS is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, its predecessor railroads, and its subsidiaries. The Society collects and preserves artifacts and records related to the railroads, as well as oral histories, documents, photographs and other archival materials. It also organizes events such as lectures and exhibits to educate the public about the railroad’s history.
The Society’s headquarters is located in Sarasota, FL and it is run by a volunteer board of directors. It has a board of advisors and a members’ council. The ELHS also has a museum and research library located in the historic depot in downtown Sarasota. It is open to the public and houses a wide variety of artifacts and documents related to the railroad.
The ELHS also produces a quarterly newsletter and holds an annual meeting, as well as a variety of other events throughout the year. The Society is always looking for volunteers to help with its activities, and donations are also welcome.
