The Boca Raton Historical Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1971 to preserve the rich history of Boca Raton, Florida. Located in the heart of downtown Boca Raton, the Society’s mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, exhibition and publish research about the history of the area for the education and enjoyment of the community. The Society operates the Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum located in the historic City Hall building.
The Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum offers a variety of educational programs, exhibits and special events. Visitors can explore the museum’s permanent collection of artifacts, photographs and documents related to the history of Boca Raton, dating back to the Seminole Indians who were the first known inhabitants of the area. The museum also hosts a series of temporary exhibits throughout the year.
The Boca Raton Historical Society also provides a variety of educational programs for children, families and adults. These include guided tours of the museum, lectures and workshops on history and culture, and even workshops and classes in traditional skills such as basket weaving, pottery and blacksmithing. The Society also organizes special events, such as the annual Boca Raton Historical Festival, to celebrate the area’s rich cultural heritage.
The Boca Raton Historical Society works to ensure the community’s unique history is remembered for generations to come. Through its educational and cultural programs, the Society strives to preserve the area’s history and to provide a better understanding of the cultural heritage of Boca Raton.
