Kachemak Heritage Land Trust (KHLT) is a local, non-profit organization located in Homer, Alaska. Founded in 2000, the mission of KHLT is to protect, steward, and educate about the natural and cultural resources of the Kachemak Bay region. KHLT works to conserve the area’s many ecological, archaeological, and historical sites. This includes protecting wetlands, water bodies, and other wildlife habitats; preserving shoreline access and views; and supporting the traditional use of plants, animals, and other natural resources by local communities. KHLT also works to create a vibrant local economy by connecting people with their environment, encouraging sustainable land uses, and promoting the protection of natural areas. KHLT has protected more than 11,000 acres of land along the Kachemak Bay coastline, and works to secure additional land through donations, conservation easements, and other means. The organization also collaborates with other organizations, landowners, and government agencies to promote and protect the natural and cultural resources of the region. In addition to land conservation, KHLT works to connect people with their environment through educational programs, public events, and recreational opportunities. Through its work, KHLT strives to create a vibrant and sustainable community in the Kachemak Bay region.
