The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, located in Washington D.C., is dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of the United States of America. The museum was created in 1964 and is the largest of its kind in the world.

The museum houses over 3 million artifacts, including the original Star-Spangled Banner, the flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem that became the national anthem of the United States. Other artifacts include the original hat Abraham Lincoln wore when he was assassinated, and personal items from George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

The museum also contains many historical documents and documents related to the civil rights movement. Other items on display include the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence.

The museum also houses a variety of interactive exhibits, including a life-sized replica of the Wright Brothers' first plane, a replica of the first telegraph, and a virtual tour of the White House.

The museum is a popular tourist destination and offers educational programs for adults and children. It also provides access to its collections online, and offers free admission to anyone who wants to visit. The museum is open every day except December 25th and January 1st.
