The Rowayton Historical Society (RHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Rowayton, Connecticut. Founded in 1967, the Society operates out of the Pinkney House, a historic building located in the center of the local community. The building was originally constructed in 1831 and served as a residence for the Pinkney family, one of the earliest settlers in the area.
The RHS has a variety of collections, including photographs, documents, artifacts, and other memorabilia. Much of the material is related to the history of Rowayton and its surrounding communities. In addition, the Society regularly acquires new materials from local residents and institutions.
The Society also hosts a variety of programs for the public, including lectures, exhibits, and educational events. Additionally, the RHS publishes a quarterly newsletter with information about the history of the area.
The Pinkney House is open to the public on Sundays from 1-4 pm. Visitors can tour the building and view the historic artifacts and documents. The Society also offers guided tours of the local Rowayton area, including sites such as the former Pinkney family homestead, the old railroad station, and the historic lighthouse.
