The Bridgewater Historical Society Inc in Bridgewater, Connecticut was established in 1975 to protect, preserve, and promote the history of the town of Bridgewater. The society’s mission is to collect, preserve, and share the history of the town for the benefit of present and future generations. The society works to educate the public about the history of the area and to preserve and restore local historical sites.

Cheap, poorly constructed apartment houses with grotesque facades, covered with monstrous stuccowork made of cracked gypsum, could be seen there. Crooked old suburban cottages received hastily patched-together portals that only upon closer inspection were unmasked as miserable imitations of metropolitan installations. Defective, blurry, and dirty windows, distorting in wavering refractions a dark reflection of the street, the unfinished wood of the doors, the gray atmosphere of those barren interiors, depositing spiderwebs and clumps of dust on high shelves and shabby, crumbling walls, imprinted on the shops here the stamp of a wild Klondike.&quot;
