The Stafford Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Stafford Springs, CT that is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of the town and its surrounding area. Founded in 1974, it is one of the oldest historical societies in Connecticut. The Society holds meetings, hosts special events, and publishes a quarterly newsletter about Stafford's history. Its museum, located in the town's former high school, houses a variety of artifacts, photographs, and documents that illustrate the history of the town. The museum also houses a research library, contains the town's historical records, and offers educational programs and tours. In addition, the Society works closely with the Stafford Public Library to provide access to archival materials. The Society is also responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of several historic sites around town, such as the Stafford Springs Cemetery, the Old Stafford Springs Train Station, and the Paul E. Johnson Memorial Park. The Society's mission is to promote interest in the history of Stafford and the surrounding area, and to preserve its sites and artifacts for future generations.
