The New Haven Colony Historical Society, located in New Haven, Connecticut, is dedicated to preserving the history of New Haven and its surrounding area. Founded in 1862, the Historical Society is the oldest such organization in the state. It is housed in the beautiful New Haven Colony House, a National Historic Landmark and former meeting place of the General Assembly of the New Haven Colony.

The Historical Society’s collection includes an extensive library, archives, and artifacts related to the history of New Haven and the surrounding area. Its library houses thousands of books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and other materials, as well as a collection of rare books and periodicals. Its archives contain original documents from the colonial period and the 19th century, as well as records from local businesses, organizations, and individuals. The Society also has a large collection of artifacts related to local history, including furniture, tools, clothing, and decorative arts.

The Society works to promote an understanding of New Haven’s history through educational programming, exhibitions, and publications. It also offers tours of the New Haven Colony House and hosts a variety of special events throughout the year. The Society is a member of the American Association for State and Local History, the New England Museum Association, and the Connecticut League of Historical Organizations.
