The Stowe-Day Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization located in Hartford, Connecticut. Founded in 1979, the Foundation is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and advocating for the legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe in Connecticut and New England. Stowe, a native of Hartford, was an abolitionist and a prolific author who wrote the novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which helped to shape the Civil War era and the anti-slavery movement.

Through its programming and initiatives, the Stowe-Day Foundation seeks to connect and engage people with the life and work of Harriet Beecher Stowe and her impact on society. It manages the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, which includes the Harriet Beecher Stowe House, a National Historic Landmark, and the Stowe House Visitor Center. In addition, the Stowe-Day Foundation organizes lectures, symposia, and other educational programs, as well as advocating for social justice and civil rights issues.

The Stowe-Day Foundation also administers the Harriet Beecher Stowe Prize, an annual award recognizing outstanding achievements in literature, art, or public service that reflect Stowe’s impact on society and promotes social justice. The Foundation also provides grants and scholarships to support the study of Stowe’s legacy and related topics.

The Stowe-Day Foundation is committed to preserving and sharing the legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe and her impact on society. Through its programming and initiatives, the Foundation seeks to educate, engage, and inspire individuals to create positive and lasting change in their communities.
