The Rico Historical Society, located in Rico Colorado, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Rico area. The Society was founded in 1975 by a group of concerned citizens who were concerned about the area’s rapidly vanishing history. Colorado's Million Dollar Highway In August 1981, we drove the Million Dollar Highway in southwestern Colorado, round-trip, from Durango to Ouray.

The scenery was spectacular, but the winding road was a little unnerving for a flat lander.

The picture shows an area where there may have been surface mining and subsequent landslides.

Columbine Lake near Telluride from the air Columbine Lake near Telluride, 12,700 feet above sea level. On the left is Lookout Peak, 13,661 feet. It was quite an adventure with Fernando Boza to get this shot. We drove over Ophir Pass, which is a pretty tough 4 wheel drive road (Fernando did a great job on the driving), then had to hike quite a way up a very steep slope to get high enough so that we could fly our drones up above the rock ridge to be able to see the lake.
