TREAD OF PIONEERS HISTORICAL COMMISSION

The Tread of Pioneers Historical Commission in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the history and culture of Routt County. Founded by local citizens in 1974, the Commission collects artifacts, photographs, and oral histories that document the unique history of the area. The Commission serves as a resource center and provides educational programming to the community and visitors.

The Commission is housed in the historic Tread of Pioneers Museum. The museum features both permanent and changing exhibits which tell the story of the area's early settlers, the American Indian tribes that inhabited the area, and the development of the local ranching, mining, and tourism industries. Visitors can also explore the museum’s art gallery and gift shop.

The Commission also maintains a number of historic sites throughout the county. These include the Stagecoach Stop, the Yampa Valley Railroad Depot, the Mount Zirkel Ranger Station, and the Seedhouse Cabin.

The Commission is funded by grants, donations, and memberships. It is also a member of the Colorado Historical Society, the Colorado Historical Foundation, and the American Association for State and Local History.
