Galloping Goose Historical is a site in Cortez, Colorado that showcases a piece of railroad history. It is named after a unique type of railcar that was used in the Montezuma Valley in the early 1900s. The railcar was a hybrid between a railcar and a bus, and its unique design allowed it to navigate the narrow, unpaved roads of the area with ease.

The park occupies 52,485 acres and contains more than 4,300 sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. It is the largest archaeological preserve in the US. Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in North America. The structure was built by the Ancestral Puebloans. It was built between 1190 and 1260 and abandoned by 1300. Cliff Palace contains 23 kivas (round sunken ceremonial rooms) and 150 rooms. It had a population of approximately 100 people. We visited the park in August 1981.
