Preparation for Pouring the Concrete Foundation of Test Stand 4697 A crane, at right, puts reinforcing steel in place in October 2014 to prepare for pouring the concrete foundation of Test Stand 4697 at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The structural test stand is one of two new stands under construction at Marshall that are critical to development of the Space Launch System. SLS will be the world's most powerful rocket for human space exploration, able to carry astronauts in the Orion spacecraft on deep-space missions, including the journey to Mars. The 85-foot-tall Test Stand 4697 will use hydraulic cylinders to subject the liquid oxygen tank and hardware of the massive SLS core stage to the same loads and stresses it will endure during a launch. The stand is rising in Marshall's West Test Area, where work is also underway on the 215-foot-tall towers of Test Stand 4693, which will conduct similar structural tests on the SLS core stage's liquid hydrogen tank. The structure at left in this photo is Test Stand 4699, which is used for Integrated Spacecraft and Payload Element Structural Tests. The Hartselle Military Museum and Foundation in Hartselle, Alabama is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the United States Military. The museum is located in the historic Hartselle Depot and houses a large collection of artifacts, documents and photographs related to the military history of the United States. The museum showcases artifacts from all branches of the military, including uniforms, weapons, equipment, photos and other memorabilia. The museum also offers a variety of educational programs and public events, including lectures, symposiums, and reenactments. The 2200 Cubic-Yard Pour Crews and concrete pumper trucks work into the night pouring the foundation of Test Stand 4697 at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Riverwild Sculpture Garden - Decatur, AL Located at Decatur's Delano Park, the Riverwild Sculpture Garden features the artwork of locals Frank Fleming and Bruce Larsen. The archway in the front is Larsen's "Heron Great Tree Gateway" made in 2010 of steel and found objects in tribute to Margaret Palmer Vann. In the background is Fleming's "The Big Turtle" made in 2009 of bronze in memory of Elizabeth Ann Vickery.
