The Fort Vasquez Museum in Platteville, Colorado, is a historic site and museum located along the South Platte River. Built in 1835, the Fort Vasquez Museum is one of the oldest structures in the state, and is the only surviving reminder of the fur trading era in Colorado. The fort was constructed by a French-Canadian fur trading company, who sought to establish a trade route between the Rocky Mountains and St. Louis.

The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the early history of Colorado, as well as the culture of the fur trade. The fort’s walls are made of adobe brick and are about four feet thick. Inside the walls, visitors will find a number of artifacts from the era, including tools, weapons, and clothing. There is also a gift shop and a recreated trading post.

The museum offers guided tours as well as educational programs, such as lectures and demonstrations. In addition, the grounds of the museum include a picnic area, a fishing pond, and a nature trail. The museum is open to the public year-round, and is a popular destination for school groups and other educational outings.

The Fort Vasquez Museum is an important reminder of the early history of Colorado, and offers visitors a unique and educational experience. It is a great place to learn more about the fur trade, and experience life in the old west.
