The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the city of Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1886, the LAFD is one of the largest municipal fire departments in the United States and is considered to have one of the busiest firefighting forces in the world. The LAFD is dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention, preparedness, and response services.

The LAFD has a long and rich history that dates back to the early days of Los Angeles. The first firehouse was established in 1871, and the first fire engine was purchased in 1875. In 1886, the LAFD was officially organized and adopted its first standards and regulations. Since that time, the LAFD has grown in size and scope, and now operates more than 100 fire stations across the city.

The LAFD has a long and proud tradition of heroism and service, and has been involved in a number of major fires and disasters, including the 1933 Long Beach earthquake, the 1971 Sylmar earthquake, and the 1994 Northridge earthquake. The LAFD has also been involved in numerous rescue and hazardous materials operations, most recently in the wake of the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic.

Today, the LAFD is an internationally recognized fire department and is committed to providing the highest level of service to the people of Los Angeles. The department’s goal is to protect life, property, and the environment through prevention, preparedness, and response services. The LAFD is proud of its history and looks forward to continuing to serve the people of Los Angeles in the future.
