The Nevada Theatre Commission (NTC) is a nonprofit organization based in Nevada City, California that was established in 1981 to preserve the historic Nevada Theatre. The Nevada Theatre is the oldest theater in California that is still in operation and has been in continuous use since 1865. The Commission strives to ensure that the theater remains a viable and vibrant cultural resource for all citizens in the community.

The mission of the Nevada Theatre Commission is to “preserve, promote, and use the Nevada Theatre for the benefit of the people of Nevada City and its environs.” The Commission works to ensure the theater remains an accessible venue for a variety of performances, and offers a wide array of entertainment programming. Events held at the Nevada Theatre include music concerts, theatrical productions, comedy shows, and special events.

The Nevada Theatre Commission also works to support the local economy and the community of Nevada City by providing a unique destination for visitors and locals alike. In addition, the Commission hosts a variety of educational and outreach programs, such as the annual Nevada City Film Festival, which provides a platform for emerging filmmakers to showcase their work.

Finally, the Commission works to maintain the historic character of the theater, while also ensuring that it remains up to date with modern amenities and safety features. They have recently completed renovations of the lobby and auditorium, as well as the installation of a new sound system. The Nevada Theatre Commission is committed to preserving the past and creating a bright future for the Nevada Theatre.
