MILLBRAE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Millbrae Historical Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1973 with the purpose of preserving and promoting the history and heritage of the Millbrae area of California. The Society works to achieve this goal through its commitment to collecting, preserving, and interpreting artifacts, photographs, documents, and other materials relating to the history of the area. It also sponsors a variety of activities and programs related to local history, including public lectures, walking tours, exhibits, and educational programs for students.

The Society is located in the historic Millbrae Train Depot, a former Southern Pacific Railroad Station built in 1905. The Depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and houses the Society’s museum and archives. The museum features displays on the local history of Millbrae, including its early settlers, its connection to the railroad, and its transformation from a rural farming community to a vibrant suburb of San Francisco. The archives contain photographs, artifacts, and documents from the area’s past, including a collection of over 500 photographs from the early 20th century.

The Society also sponsors various events throughout the year, such as its annual History Fair, which features exhibits, demonstrations, and activities that explore the area’s past and its impact on the present. The Society also sponsors lectures on local history, walking tours of historic sites, and special programs for local schools. In addition, the Society organizes field trips to other historical sites in the Bay Area and provides research assistance to those interested in learning more about the area’s history.
