McHenry Mansion is a historic house located in Modesto, California. Built in 1883, the house was purchased by Robert McHenry, a prominent local banker and rancher. The house was designed by prominent San Francisco architect Albert Pissis in the Eastlake Victorian style.
The mansion is one of the most impressive examples of Victorian architecture in the San Joaquin Valley and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house has a two-story main house and a single-story east wing. The main house is an example of the Stick Style, with a two-story gable roof and a two-story bay window on the east side. The walls of the house are finished with wooden clapboards, giving the house a distinctive look.
Inside, the house features a large central hall with a grand staircase, a dining room with a fireplace, and a library. The décor of the house is mostly original and features intricate wooden trim, stained glass windows, and painted ceilings.
The grounds of the house are just as impressive as the house itself. The grounds feature a large garden, a gazebo, and a carriage house. The garden is full of trees and flowers and provides a beautiful backdrop for the house.
