EAST BROTHER LIGHT STATION

PT RICHMOND, CA

East Brother Light Station is a historic lighthouse located in Point Richmond, California. It is situated on an island in the San Francisco Bay and its purpose is to guide ships safely into San Francisco Bay. The original lighthouse was built in 1874 and was replaced in 1879 with the existing structure. The lighthouse is a two-story building made of brick and is topped by a fourth-order Fresnel lens. The light is visible for up to nine nautical miles.

The light station also includes a fog signal building, keeper’s quarters, diesel generator building, and a boathouse. The keeper’s quarters has been renovated and is now used as a bed and breakfast. The light station is open to the public during the day and offers tours of the lighthouse and grounds.

The light station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a California Historical Landmark. The East Brother Light Station is maintained by a non-profit organization, which is responsible for the preservation of the lighthouse and its surrounding grounds. The organization also hosts events such as weddings and other special events.
