The Whittier Historic Neighborhood Association (WHNA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the historic character of Whittier, California. WHNA was established in 1984 and works to promote the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of the historic neighborhoods in the city. WHNA is a volunteer-run organization and works with the City of Whittier, the Whittier Historical Society, and the Whittier Conservancy to promote and preserve the city’s historical heritage.
WHNA is responsible for the maintenance of the historic landmarks in Whittier and is actively involved in the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of the city’s historic structures. WHNA also works to protect the historic resources of the city and works to ensure that the history of Whittier is properly displayed in the city’s public spaces. The organization helps to organize and sponsor a variety of events throughout the year such as historic house tours, historic preservation workshops, and the annual Whittier Historic Neighborhood Tour.
The Whittier Historic Neighborhood Association also works to promote awareness of the city’s history. The organization works to educate the public about Whittier’s history through lectures, walking tours, and other events. The organization also sponsors an annual Historic Preservation Awards program to recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the preservation of the city’s history.
Through its activities, WHNA works to preserve and protect the city’s historical legacy and to promote the appreciation and preservation of Whittier’s historic neighborhoods.
