The Bayfield County Historical Society, located in Iron River, Wisconsin, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history of Bayfield County. Founded in 1966, the Society is responsible for preserving historical artifacts, conducting research, and educating the public about Bayfield County’s rich and diverse history. The Society operates a number of programs and maintains a library and archive for research purposes.

The Society offers a variety of public events, such as lectures, guided tours, and special exhibits. The Society’s library and archive contain an extensive collection of books, maps, photographs, and other historical documents related to Bayfield County. The Society also maintains an online database of Bayfield County newspapers dating back to the 19th century. The Society also has an extensive collection of oral histories and memoirs from individuals who have lived in Bayfield County over the years. Additionally, the Society operates a research center that houses a variety of photographs, maps, and other artifacts related to Bayfield County.

The Society is funded through donations, grants, and memberships. The Society encourages members to participate in its various activities, including attending meetings and lectures, volunteering their time, and serving as board or committee members. The Society also offers a variety of educational programs and activities to help the public gain a better understanding of Bayfield County’s history.
