LITTLE WHITE SCHOOLHOUSE

The Little White Schoolhouse is a historic building located in the city of Ripon, Wisconsin. It was built in 1853 and served as the birthplace of the Republican Party. The building is a small, white, one-room schoolhouse with a simple gable roof. It was originally used as a school until the 1880s, when it was repurposed as a town hall.

In 1854, a group of citizens met in the schoolhouse to form a new political party in opposition to slavery. This group became known as the Republican Party, and the meeting in the Little White Schoolhouse is now considered the first Republican Party meeting in history.

The schoolhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and is now a museum dedicated to the history of the Republican Party. Visitors can view exhibits and artifacts related to the party's history, as well as the history of the schoolhouse itself. The building has been restored to its original appearance and features period furnishings and decorations.
