The Williamsburg District Historic Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Williamsburg, West Virginia. It was founded in 1956 with a mission to preserve and promote the history of Williamsburg District, a small rural community located in the Appalachian Mountains. The Foundation strives to achieve this goal through a variety of activities, such as collecting artifacts, creating and maintaining historic sites, hosting educational programs, and providing research services.
The Williamsburg District Historic Foundation Inc. is responsible for the upkeep of seven historic sites in the area, including the Williamsburg Historic District, the Williamsburg Cemetery, the Williamsburg Church, the Williamsburg School, the Williamsburg Library, the Williamsburg Museum, and the Williamsburg Mill. A variety of activities and events are offered at the sites, such as guided tours, lectures, exhibitions, and special programs. The Foundation also provides educational resources, such as books, videos, and displays, to local schools and organizations.
In addition to its preservation and educational efforts, the Foundation also works to promote the local economy by supporting local businesses, hosting events, and providing resources for entrepreneurs. It also serves as a partner for local organizations, such as the Williamsburg Area Economic Development Corporation, the Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Williamsburg Area Arts Council.
