BNSF 8501 - Modesto Station After waiting for traffic to clear up at Riverbank, a southbound BNSF Key Train gets back up to the maximum allowed 45mph track speed with a long string of autos up front followed by tank cars stenciled for sulfuric acid, inedible tallow, liquified petroleum gas and ethanol. I stepped back a few feet after I heard over the scanner this was a Key Train. Camera be damned!

UP 8008 - Livingston, CA A southbound Roseville, CA to West Colton manifest freight train rolls south down the Union Pacific's Fresno Subdivision adjacent to Highway 99. Just north of the small town of Livingston is the massive Foster Farms grain elevator and feed complex. This facility even hosts a continuous loop track to accommodate the unloading of unit grain trains adjacent to the mainline. About 15 years earlier I photographed the original UP 8008 in Roseville. At the time, this class was used for EMD SD9043MACs before the GEVOs showed up on the scene. Times have changed the MACs are now off roster or scrapped!
BNSF 6953 - Modesto A southbound intermodal with a KCS 'Gray Ghost' second in consist on the head end flies past the Modesto Amtrak station on its way down the Central Valley. This train originated at the BNSF Railway's Stockton Intermodal Facility just south of Stockton, CA.

Rainbow over BNSF Manifest A rainbow forms over storm clouds from a recent rain storm moving through Northern California. I was busy shooting the train from the opposite angle when I turned around and quickly grabbed this shot. The clouds were wonderful on this December afternoon in Modesto.
