SHOALS MUSEUM OF FAMILY L

HUNTINGTON, WV

KY 644 Levisa Fork Bridge (Louisa, Kentucky) Historic KY 644 bridge over Levisa Fork south of Louisa in Lawrence County, Kentucky. The bridge was originally built by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad (C&O) and likely dates from the late 1800s. The C&O built a new railroad bridge adjacent to this one in 1914 and in 1916 gave this (old) bridge to Lawrence County for use as a highway bridge.

The bridge contains two pin-connected Pratt through truss spans and one Warren through truss (with verticals) span. The 3 truss spans likely date from two different time periods. The two Pratt truss spans utilize tubular steel beams and are older than the Warren truss span. The Pratt spans may have been built by the Phoenix Bridge Company. A girder approach span next to the Warren truss has a bridge builders plaque from the King Bridge Company (King Iron Bridge & Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio) and a 1904 date.
