The History Center of San Luis Obispo County is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of San Luis Obispo County, California. Founded in 1951, the mission of the History Center is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of the region.
The History Center is located in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo, in the historic Carnegie Library building, which was built in 1910. The building was generously donated to the History Center in 1978 by the City of San Luis Obispo.
The Center houses a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits, including artifacts, photographs, documents, and oral histories. The History Center also has an extensive library of books and periodicals on San Luis Obispo County history, as well as a research center that is open to the public.
