Weeping Willow The weeping willow tree is a common and lovely funerary symbol. But in the western US these trees do not occur naturally and, given our low precipitation levels, are quite rare.

Aaaaand just hours after writing the above I spotted a weeping willow barely a mile from my house. 🤔 Much smaller than a willows from their native range, but still...

Anchors Aweigh Louzana's brother must have spent a lot on this monument. A hand-carved eight line poem doesn't come cheap.
Also- this monument is yet another <a href="https://flic.kr/p/2oSWUfE" rel="noreferrer nofollow">slapdash repair job</a>.

Brock's Blocks In the late 1960s, this entire cemetery was moved uphill to make way for the Oroville dam and reservoir. I can't help but wonder if the obelisk's fractures and amateur repairs were occasioned by that move.
In 2017, the dam's spillway <a href="https://damfailures.org/case-study/oroville-dam-california-2017/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">experienced a failure</a> that caused massive erosion, led to overtopping and the evacuation of nearly 190,000 people. The cemetery was unaffected.

Uncommon Grave Goods I've seen a <i>lot</i> of grave goods over the years and there's generally not a huge variety. Plastic flowers, figurines, toys, bottles and cans of alcohol, coins, sportsball memorabilia, stuff like that.
One thing I genuinely can't explain is the package of diapers left in 2023 at the grave of a woman who died in 1957. I'm sure there's a story there, but what?
