The Stuart-Mosby Historical Society Inc, based in Burke, Virginia, was established in 1987 to preserve and promote the heritage of Fairfax County’s southern community. The organization is dedicated to the study, appreciation, and preservation of the area’s history, including its architecture, culture, and people.

The Society is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and its mission is to “develop, promote, and maintain public interest in the history of Burke, Fairfax County, and the state of Virginia.” The Society’s activities include educational programs, field trips, lectures, and workshops. It also maintains a library and archives for research, and serves as a repository for artifacts and documents related to the history of the area.

The Society sponsors several annual events and activities, including the Burke Heritage Day, a celebration of the community’s history and culture; the Stuart-Mosby Civil War Cavalry Symposium, a gathering of scholars, re-enactors, and historians to discuss Cavalry tactics and history; and a living history encampment at Burke Lake Park.

The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter and has a number of committees, including the Collections and Preservation Committee, the Education Committee, and the Publications Committee. The Society’s board of directors is composed of members of the local community.

The Stuart-Mosby Historical Society Inc is an important resource for those interested in learning about the history and culture of Fairfax County’s southern community. Its activities and events are open to the public, and it welcomes new members and volunteers.
