The Southampton County Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Newsoms, Virginia. Founded in 1969, the society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Southampton County and the surrounding region.

The society’s headquarters is the Southampton County Historical Society Museum, which is housed in a restored 1914 school building. The museum features exhibits showcasing the history of the county, including its agriculture, industry, and military history. The museum also houses a research library with a collection of books, documents, and photographs related to the county’s history.

A sign in the churchyard gives the date of establishment as 1888. A church was erected around this time, which was destroyed in 1932 by a tornado. Strong Gothic Revival elements, such as the arched lancet windows, are present in the current building. The frame structure is essentially a front gable one with adherence to symmetry. A possible addition is the gabled element at the rear of the building. A double leaf wooden door flanked by pointed arched windows leads into the entry. Above this is an interesting roof of two sections with an opening between those two parts. A feature such as this surely has a special name, but I was unable to find it. Topping the entrance is a square tower with louvers, which is surmounted by a "Celtic cross." The flowers in the last image in this album were located on either side of the stone steps leading to the front doors.
