The Historical Jericho School Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Woodford, Virginia. It was established in 2001 with the aim of preserving and promoting the history of the Jericho School, which was once a segregated school for African American children in the area.
The Jericho School was built in 1924 and served as a primary and secondary school for African American children until it was closed in 1965, following desegregation. Over the years, the school building fell into disrepair and was at risk of demolition. However, the Historical Jericho School Foundation stepped in and was able to acquire the building in 2001, saving it from destruction.
Since then, the foundation has been working tirelessly to restore the building and preserve its historical significance. Today, the Jericho School serves as a museum and cultural center, showcasing the history of African American education in Virginia. The foundation also provides educational programs and events for the community, including lectures, workshops, and art exhibits.
Through its efforts, the Historical Jericho School Foundation has helped to ensure that the legacy of the Jericho School and the African American community it served will not be forgotten.
