After autumn foliage disappears and trees are bare in the woods, the American Beech lightens the views with its pale brown leaves, which remain all winter long. The leaves in spring eventually replace the brown. The phenomenon fascinates me, yet I've not been able to photograph these forest scenes with clarity that pleases me. Of over 50 shots taken in various locations, these at Buffalo Springs Archaeological District are the best. He created dozens of sculptures from castoff industrial materials before his death at 91 years old in 2014. He got most of his materials from junkyards and highway projects. It sits just west of US 360 on Cage Trail in Halifax County.
