The Film Noir Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Kensington, California which is dedicated to saving, restoring, and preserving classic film noir cinema. Founded in 1997 by film historian and author Eddie Muller, the Foundation is committed to safeguarding these cinematic gems from the 1940s and 1950s, many of which are rarely seen or even forgotten.

The Foundation has been instrumental in the restoration of numerous film noir titles, including The Naked City (1948), The Big Heat (1953), and The Lady from Shanghai (1948). They have also been successful in locating prints of previously lost films such as Cry Danger (1951) and Woman in the Window (1944). The Foundation raises funds and awareness through DVD/Blu-ray releases, theatrical screenings, and special events.

The Film Noir Foundation also works to educate the public about the genre, and to inspire future generations of filmmakers. They host seminars, film festivals, and workshops on various aspects of film noir, and their website features articles, reviews, and interviews with noted directors, writers, and actors who have worked in the genre.

The Foundation has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and the American Film Institute. They have also received grants from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and several other organizations. By preserving and promoting classic film noir, the Film Noir Foundation is helping to ensure that these timeless works of art will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.
