Solar Eclipse 2024 - 22 degree halo 8 minutes before totality a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22%c2%b0_halo" rel="noreferrer nofollow">22° halo</a> formed around the sun and moon. This is caused by refraction of light by hexagonal ice crystals in the high clouds. Note that the sun was already more than 90% covered by the moon, though you could not tell from this photo as it was taken with a cell phone without filters.

St. Albans Bay under the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 No photo can provide the same experience as what was perceived a the time by the human brain. This one is not too good a match with what I remember. However it still shows that the horizon is illuminated like a sunset, except it is yellow all around (as there is no sun setting at any point in the horizon).

I had to adjust the color temperature of this photo to approximately match the colors that I remember sensing at the time.

Solar Eclipse 2024 - Prominence and Baily's beads Baily's beads appearing at third contact (end of totality), at 5 o'clock.

The redish <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_prominence" rel="noreferrer nofollow">prominence</a> (filament) at 7 o'clock was clearly seen by naked eye during totality as a red dot.
