San Angelo Old Town Conservancy Inc. is a non-profit organization based in San Angelo, Texas. It is devoted to the preservation, protection and promotion of San Angelo’s historic, cultural and architectural heritage.
The Conservancy was founded in 1998 with the mission of preserving the unique character of San Angelo’s historic downtown. It works to preserve structures of historical and cultural significance, promote and facilitate the redevelopment of the downtown area, and encourage the use of historic buildings for economic development.
The organization works with local and state organizations to coordinate and fund restoration projects in the downtown area. It also works with the City of San Angelo to ensure that new developments in the area are compatible with the historic character of the downtown.
The Conservancy also sponsors educational programs and activities such as walking tours and lectures to help educate the public about the history and architecture of San Angelo. It also collaborates with local schools and organizations to promote public awareness of the city’s historical and architectural heritage.
The organization’s efforts have resulted in the restoration of numerous historic buildings and the designation of numerous downtown San Angelo buildings as Texas Historic Landmarks. The Conservancy’s work has helped to bring new life to the historic downtown area and has helped to spur economic development in the area.
