RAGTOWN HISTORICAL PROJECT

POST, TX

Out with the Old - In with the New I found it interesting while driving through west Texas this summer how many old wells and wind turbines shared the same area.

Talk about energy diversification.

The photo was taken southeast of Lubbock.

The Ragtown Historical Project in Post, Texas, is dedicated to preserving the history of the historic town of Ragtown. Ragtown was a small, unincorporated community in Garza County, Texas, that was founded in the late 1800s and continued to exist until the 1940s. The project works to collect, preserve, and share the history of this unique community. Through the project, visitors can learn about the history of Ragtown, view artifacts from the town, and explore the cemetery where many of the original settlers are buried.

The project is spearheaded by local resident and historian, Billie Jean Blount. Blount has been researching the history of Ragtown since the early 2000s and has worked to collect and preserve its history. The Ragtown Historical Project was founded in 2011 and includes a museum, a library, a cemetery, and a restored original Ragtown residence. Visitors to the museum can explore artifacts from the town, including photos, documents, and objects used by the early settlers.

The library offers a collection of books and research materials related to Ragtown's history, and visitors can learn about the history of the town and its people. The cemetery is the final resting place for many of the original Ragtown settlers and provides a peaceful space for visitors to reflect on the past. The restored Ragtown residence allows visitors to experience the town as it was during its heyday.

The Ragtown Historical Project is an important part of preserving the history of this unique community and its people. By exploring the museum, library, cemetery, and restored residence, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the history of Ragtown.
