The New Idria Historical Preservation Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and cultural heritage of the New Idria mining district in Santa Cruz, California. The district is located in the Diablo Range and was once a thriving center of mercury mining and processing. The project aims to preserve the remaining structures and artifacts from this era, as well as educate the public about the district's history.

The New Idria district was active from the mid-1800s to the mid-1970s, and during its heyday, it produced more than 36 million pounds of mercury. The district was home to a number of mining camps, processing plants, and other structures, many of which are still standing today. The preservation project has identified over 50 historically significant structures in the district, including the Old Administration Building, the New Idria Mercantile Store, and the remains of the New Idria Furnace.

Since its founding in 2005, the New Idria Historical Preservation Project has conducted extensive research on the district's history, developed preservation plans for the remaining structures, and worked with government agencies and other organizations to secure funding for preservation efforts. The project also offers educational programs and tours to the public, including guided hikes and lectures on the district's history and ecology. Through its efforts, the project aims to ensure that the legacy of the New Idria mining district is preserved for future generations.
