Pitts, a doctor from Richmond, who served as a surgeon at the Abingdon Confederate Hospital during the Civil War. Dr. Pitts lived in the house until his death in 1869. The house features a stucco-clad exterior, a five-bay front facade, a side-gable roof with stepped parapets, nine-over-six, six-over-six, and two-over-two double-hung windows with shutters, a recessed front entrance door with sidelights, a transom, and a decorative trim surround, and a two-story shed-roof wood-frame rear ell.
