James White's Fort is a historic limestone structure located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Built in 1786 by Revolutionary War veteran James White, the fort was used as a refuge during Indian attacks and later as a residence. The fort is now a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into life during the early days of Tennessee's settlement.

The fort is a two-story limestone structure with a central courtyard and four corner turrets. The fort measures approximately 50 feet by 50 feet and the walls are about 14 feet high. Visitors may enter the fort through the main door on the east side, which was originally protected by a heavy wooden gate. The interior contains a large hall, a kitchen, bedrooms, a library, and a chapel.

The fort was the center of James White's estate, which included a gristmill and a brick kiln. The estate also provided food, lumber, and other supplies to nearby settlers. The fort was the site of several skirmishes between the settlers and Native Americans during the early 19th century and was a major gathering point during the War of 1812.

James White's Fort was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and continues to serve as a reminder of Knoxville's history. Visitors can explore the fort and learn about the early days of Tennessee settlement in this historic structure.
