The Airplane Filling Station Preservation Association in Powell, Tennessee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Airplane Filling Station located in Powell. The Airplane Filling Station was built in the late 1920s and is the only known airplane filling station in the United States of its kind. The station was built to service both commercial and military aircraft and served as a fueling depot for the US Navy during World War II.

The Airplane Filling Station Preservation Association works to maintain the property and to educate the public about the historical significance of the station. The property includes the original building, as well as a gift shop, a museum, and a picnic area. The museum is filled with a collection of artifacts from the station, including tools, photographs, and documents, which tell the story of the station’s history.

The Association also works to ensure that the station’s historical integrity is preserved. The Association holds regular events to help raise funds for the preservation of the property and to educate the public on the history of the station. Recognizing the potential significance of the bell, $750,000 in donations was ultimately raised to design, fabricate, deliver, and install the bell, by citizens and foundations in communities in both Japan, and in Oak Ridge. The bell was not without controversy when it was dedicated in 1996. There were concerns over potential noise from the bell, as well as some interpreting it as an apology for destroying Hiroshima.
