The Jasper County Historic Society is a non-profit organization located in the town of Ridgeland, South Carolina. The society was established in 1974 with the aim of preserving and promoting the history of Jasper County and the Lowcountry region of South Carolina.

[This is a set of 9 photos] The Church of the Cross is an historic church in Bluffton, Beaufort County, South Carolina, overlooking the May River. It is in Carpenter Gothic style. Made of unfinished cypress wood it is constructed with the board and batten pattern of vertical strips of wood along the surfaces. Constructed in a cruciform design, the church has four clearly defined facades. The front, or east facade, has a pointed-arch doorway flanked by a mullioned lancet window on each side, the arched portion using a palmetto design; these windows have shutters, a feature used throughout the church. Above the door is a 3-part lancet window with smaller trefoil-shaped windows on either side. The same door and window styles are used throughout. On the north facade is an open belltower that does not rise much in height. Photos of the apse (west facade) did not turn out.
Construction began in 1854, and the church was consecrated in 1857. The interior has exposed timbers of pine, rose tinted glass and pink plaster, which enhances the soft light. The architect was Edward Brickell White (1806-1882) of Charleston, South Carolina.
