SANTEE LIGHT ARTILLERY

Santee Light Artillery is a historic artillery unit located in Huger, South Carolina. The unit was founded in 1861 and served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The Santee Light Artillery was initially organized as a battery of six guns under the command of Captain W. E. Earle. The unit saw action in several battles, including Fort Sumter, Fort Wagner, and the Battle of Honey Hill.

Today, the Santee Light Artillery is an active reenactment group that preserves the history and traditions of the original unit. The members of the group wear authentic Confederate uniforms and operate replica cannons that are similar to the ones used during the Civil War. They participate in reenactments, parades, and other events to educate the public on the history of the Civil War and the role of artillery in the conflict.

The Santee Light Artillery is also involved in community service activities, including the preservation of historic sites and the support of local veterans' organizations. The group is dedicated to honoring the sacrifices of the original unit and to preserving the legacy of the Confederate soldiers who served in the Civil War.
